Protect Our JOBS --Stop 60/61/101 Business Summit

Metro North Chamber Development Council Breakfast

METRO NORTH REGION, COLO --- “PROTECT OUR JOBS” will be the message of the Metro North Chamber Business Summit on June 16 through the Don’t Hurt Colorado Campaign. This Business Summit will address how and why the business community must STOP 60/61/101 to ensure the protection of our job market in Colorado. Please join the Metro North Chamber of Commerce as we present the hard facts regarding ballot initiatives on Wednesday, June 16th from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. at Heritage Todd Creek Golf Course (8455 Heritage Dr., Thornton).

} Amendment 60: Cuts school funding by more than a billion dollars a year.

The school districts would be required to cut property taxes by 50 percent. This would be on top of cuts that have already occurred. Inevitably, there will be more closings and even fewer teachers. It would further cripple our schools, other vital local services and loss of jobs.

} Amendment 61: Shuts down the ability to build or expand our roads, schools, water facilities….all of our infrastructure.

Amendment 61 will collapse Colorado’s economy, robbing us of any chance of economic recovery. It eliminates Colorado’s ability to build or expand its schools, roads, hospitals, college buildings, light rail, water and sewer systems, prisons—in fact, any of its capital infrastructure.

} Proposition 101: Various reductions in State and local fees and taxes which result in a major funding cut for roads, bridges and schools.

Proposition 101 would eliminate a major funding source for road and bridge construction across the state. The annual vehicle registration fee would be cut to an arbitrary $10 – no longer based on vehicle size or weight. The registration fee hasn’t been that low since 1919 when the state had only a handful of paved roads. Road budgets would be cut by hundreds of millions of dollars, meaning more potholes and crumbling bridges. Not only would state highway projects be cut, but local projects would be as well, since cities and counties receive a major portion of their road funding from this fee.

“We need to put a stop to ballot initiatives 60/61/101 or we will experience economic decline and even more jobs lost in our state and Metro North communities,” said Deborah Obermeyer, CEO Metro North Chamber. “The business community must unite and educate on the impacts of these three ballot measures,” she continued.

Table sponsorships are still available for $300 (table of 8). For individual chamber members the cost is $40.00, non-member rate is $45. The breakfast is open to the public.
