Second Creek student writes winning short story

Second Creek sixth-grader Katherine Anne Fasbender won third place in the Colorado Council of the International Reading Association’s annual Young Writer’s Award contest. Her short story, “The Lake Never Lies,” was selected from entries from across Colorado in the fifth- and sixth-grade writers category.

The 27J student was honored at the Young Writers’ Luncheon during the CCIRA state conference in Denver in February.

According to its Web site, the purpose of CCIRA is to promote improvement in the quality of reading instruction at all levels, to encourage permanent interest in reading and appreciation for the value of reading, and to help promote literacy.
