2009 KIWANIS STARS OF TOMORROW SHOWCASES LOCAL TALENT

By Kathy McIntyre, Editor

The Brighton Kiwanis Club held the annual 2009 Kiwanis Stars of Tomorrow Show, Saturday evening, April 11 at Brighton High School. As a former first place Stars of Tomorrow winner in 1964 with my baton and flag twirling skills, I know first hand how exciting this program is. I still have my trophy after all these years (decades!) and smile when I think about how much my self confidence and self esteem were boosted by having the opportunity to perform my twirling skills in front of the community. I also loved the fact that a baton twirler beat a piano player at the time, it was quite the competition.

The master of ceremonies for the evening was Jan Hepp-Struck of Hepp Realty, LLC, Metro Brokers. She explained that Kiwanis International was founded in 1915 and headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. There are over 600,000 members in nearly 15,000 clubs and more than 90 nations.

The principal core of the Kiwanis mission is the belief that the most effective way to enhance a community is to enhance its children. When you give a child a chance to learn experience, dream and succeed and great things will happen.

The Stars of Tomorrow Show and the advertising from the loyal advertisers in the show’s program is the club’s major annual fundraiser.

The funds raised from the show and other projects are contributed to the following groups in the form of scholarships in support of their projects in the community:

Platte Valley Medical Center
Rocky Mountain Key Clubs
Brighton High School DECA Club
Kiwanis International “Skip-a-Meal”
Boys and Girls Club of Brighton
CASA of Adams County
Toys for Santa Project
Almost Home

The club is always seeking new members who share our mission and objectives, so please consider joining them any Wednesday at 12:00, noon. The club meets at the Knights of Columbus Hall with a delicious lunch. They would love to have all of you as their guest and become a potential new member.
