Got time? Want to feel invigorated and invaluable at the same time? School District 27J may have just the program for you.
The district has formalized a volunteer program that will match volunteers with schools and projects that can benefit from volunteer support.
The program is coordinated by Rebekha Grigsby. “Volunteers spend countless hours supporting the academic programs for hundreds of our students each year,” she said.
Volunteers spend anywhere from 1 to 15 hours a week performing many different tasks: working with individual students, working with small groups of students, presenting interesting information that aligns with the curriculum, assessment, working in the library, clubs and activities, crosswalk and traffic, front office support, classroom clerical work, coaching, and many more areas.
“Volunteers come to us from throughout our communities,” she said, “from business, professional to college students. We can use your talents!”
Individuals interested in volunteering in School District 27J can contact Grigsby at 303-655-2818 or contact a school directly. Either way the contact is made, “We will ask you to complete a Volunteer Interest Form first so we can help you decided how you want to use your time volunteering,” Grigsby said.
Once prospective volunteers have decided what they would like to do and how much time they can spend, they will complete a Volunteer Agreement, Grigsby said, “to establish expectations for volunteers to help ensure that effective learning and teaching take place in a safe, secure and welcoming environment for students, staff and our community members.”
