Mow down pollution with a green-tech solution

“Mow Down Pollution” lawn mower exchange event on May 2

Denver (April 14, 2009) – The Regional Air Quality Council (RAQC) is partnering with Neuton Lawn Mower Company to host three “Mow Down Pollution” lawn equipment exchanges across the Denver metro area on Saturday, May 2. Residents can reserve their earth-friendly mowers by calling 1 (800) 457-8651.

Partners in this year’s “Mow Down Pollution” event include the City of Commerce City, EPA Region 8, the City and County of Denver, Boulder County, Neuton Lawn Mower Company, Suncor Energy and the American Lung Association of Colorado.

Area residents are encouraged to trade in their old lawn mowers at and exchange them for a discount on one of Neuton’s cordless, battery-operated mowers, which will be available to test. Two cordless mowers will be available at the event. The Neuton® CE 5, which retails for $399 is priced at $140 with gasoline-powered mower trade-in; and the Neuton® CE 6 which will be for sale for $240.

Emissions from gas-powered lawn mowers contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone on hot, still days. Earth-friendly lawn equipment can help reduce ozone pollution, according to Ken Lloyd, executive director of the RAQC.

“New, greener technologies mean we don’t have to rely on older, gasoline-powered lawn mowers that produce too much pollution,” said Ken Lloyd, executive director of the RAQC. “At this year’s event, we are able to offer consumers a cost-efficient alternative to high-polluting mowers of the past.”
