COMMERCE CITY – Relax and enjoy the sunset with friends at Summer Sunset, a wine-tasting event set for June 19.
Adults and seniors are invited to celebrate the beginning of warmer weather at Summer Sunset, where participants will nibble on cheese, sip wine and listen to an acoustic guitar as they unwind and take in the colors of a vibrant Colorado sunset.
Summer Sunset is the first in a series of Friday-night activities from Over 50 After 5, social events for adults and seniors. It is part of Encore, a new umbrella program that encompasses arts, education, fitness and social events for adults and seniors at the Commerce City Recreation Center.
“Encore is a great program that we hope will engage area adults and show them all that is available through the Parks and Recreation Department,” said Maripat Gallas, recreation supervisor for community events.
“The Over 50 After 5 series was developed in response to residents’ requests for affordable social events within the community,” she said. Each event costs just $5.
Along with the Over 50 events, Encore programs include Never Too Late to Learn, which features a book club and Spanish lessons; Active Living, which offers meditation and fitness courses; and creative arts events and classes in drawing, guitar, pottery and more.
The Over 50 After 5 series next goes to Buffalo Run Golf Course Aug. 21 for “Magic Under the Stars,” then hosts “Java and Jazz” on Oct. 16. In December, a tour of the Hover Home is planned.
The Summer Sunset wine-tasting event is 7-9 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at the Reunion Park barn, 17550 Reunion Parkside Drive North. Cost is $5 at the door. For more information, call 303-289-3761.
