The Mile High Music Festival and The Art Institute of Colorado Team Up to Create Green Inspired Designs

DENVER, CO, July 14, 2009 - Art Institute of Colorado Industrial Design students have lent their innovative and "green" talent to the 2nd Annual Mile High Music Festival.

Tasked with creating structurally sound interactive outdoor sculptures, three student teams worked together to conceptualize ideas. Individually unique, each sculpture incorporates green aspects through recyclable, sustainable and re-used materials. Participants of the Mile High Music Festival will have the opportunity to interact with the sculptures and experience the importance of environmental design.

Sculpture designs include VIP tent seating created out of recycled agricultural and truck tires, car seats and re-used fabrics; Mayan inspired village with a solar powered rotating sun and towering misting sunflowers; giant movable hands designed and operated with recycled tent and backpack poles and re-used climbing rope; and an Earth inspired dome tent fashioned from re-used plastic bags and garbage.

The exhibited designs aim to raise awareness about our ecosystem and provide a visual of sustainable culture. Art Institute of Colorado industrial design student Sarah Ewalt said she was drawn to the project as she sees it as "a tangible opportunity to see how humans and nature interact more gently."

Student designers include Michael Beekman, Eric Bender, Nicole Birdsong, Chris Carter, Rebecca Citarella, Jeremy Cui, Mike Davis, Garrett Dermer, Sarah Ewalt, Mike Harza, Stephan Le Roux, Alisha Maxey, Zach Nilsson, Ryan Persichitte, Philip Rowe, Brandon Schaffner and Jacob Schult.
