27J’s Joan Root receives state award

Joan Root, School District 27J director of Career and Technical Education, was presented with the Outstanding Service by a Member award during the 2009 Colorado Association for Career and Technical Education summer conference and awards celebration on July 14.

Root was honored alongside Elizabeth Garcia for outstanding contribution to advancing CTE in Colorado by co-facilitating the Math-in-CTE pilot program for the state.

Over 18 months, the two volunteers donated their time to design, implement and evaluate the state pilot, according to the program in which the award was announced.
They provided leadership in working with the National Research Center for CTE to develop the Colorado model. In addition, Root and Garcia worked to promote the Math-in-CTE with state policy members.

CACTE is the state professional association for Career and Technical educators. Since 1917, CACTE has been the largest state organization supporting career and technical educators in their efforts to prepare students for career and life success.
