COMMERCE CITY – The city is looking for volunteers to join the Complete Count Committee (CCC), which will help with the 2010 census. The CCC will team with other community-based organizations and groups that have direct contact with residents, especially those communities that have traditionally been under counted. According to Community Development Director Brian McBroom, the city wants to make sure everyone in Commerce City is counted. This includes people of all ages, races, ethnic groups, citizens and non-citizens, he said.
“Members of the committee will be asked to help implement a creative outreach campaign in areas that may be a challenge in 2010,” McBroom said. “The CCC will also work to dispel myths and alleviate fears from citizens about the privacy and confidentiality of census data.”
Committee members will include a cross section of community representatives from government agencies, education, business, religious organizations and the media. Members appointed to the CCC should be willing and able to serve until the census count is complete in April 2010.
The United States Constitution requires that a nationwide census is conducted every 10 years. Census data directly affects how more than $300 billion per year in federal and state funding is allocated to communities for neighborhood improvements, public health, education, transportation and more.
