COMMERCE CITY – Douglass Colony Group, a roofing company that has spent the past 27 years in Commerce City, was presented the Small Business Award for 2009.Formerly Douglass Roofing, the business was one of five finalists for the award, which is presented by the City of Commerce City. The other finalists were local businesses Colographics, Inc., Davita Commerce City Dialysis, Alpine Waste and Recycling and Werth Manor.
Along with its local headquarters, Douglass Colony Group also has offices in Greeley, Colorado Springs and Glenwood Springs. Having its headquarters in Commerce City is one of the reasons the business has been successful, according to owner Robert Bechtholdt.

Mayor Paul Natale said the company is a prime example of the many great organizations doing business locally.
“Douglass Colony Group is a great company; it cares about its employees, and it cares about Commerce City,” Natale said. “It’s a company that the city looks forward to working with for years to come.”
City Economic Development Director Brittany Morris echoed Mayor Natale’s comments.
“Douglass Colony Group is a highly respected company that has worked on several high profile projects across the Denver metro area,” Morris said. “Douglass is one of the main-stays of Commerce City’s business community and is very deserving of this award.”
The company focuses on commercial roofing projects and employs about 250 people. Bechtholdt said company projects include working on St. Anthony’s Hospital, the new Federal Center in Lakewood, Northfield’s shopping center, DIA and Commerce City’s Civic Center.
