Former state House Speaker Andrew Romanoff announced today he has filed the paperwork with the Federal Election Commission required for him to challenge U.S. Senator Michael Bennet in a Democratic primary.
Romanoff was one of several high-profile individuals up for consideration for appointment to the U.S. Senate seat that became vacant when Ken Salazar was appointed President Barack Obama's secretary of the interior department.
Mr. Romanoff is expected to make a formal announcement next week.
