“Today our country recognizes Veterans Day as a time to reflect upon and honor the sacrifices of those who fought to defend this nation. One of my biggest priorities in Congress is taking care of those men and women who have taken care of us. To both current and former members of our military, I want to say thank your for your courage and your service.
I’m proud this year we’ve been able to accomplish so much to help our nation’s veterans. We broke ground on a new, stand alone VA Medical Center in the 7th Congressional District located at the former Fitzsimons Campus. Additionally, we expanded the post-9/11 GI Bill to cover the full cost of college for surviving military children and increased the budget for the Department of Veterans Affairs for maintenance at VA medical facilities, construction of veterans’ extended care facilities, veteran cemetery repairs and provided additional funding to disabled veterans receiving VA compensation or pension.
It is important to honor these brave veterans’ service by recording and preserving their histories for future generations. Every day we lose more veterans and therefore lose a part of our nation’s history. We must continue to work with schools and veterans’ organizations to preserve this important part of American history. The history of our veterans is the history of our nation.”
