AURORA, CO, November 11 – Throughout September and October, Rocky Mountain Urgent Care and Family Medicine gave away free flu shots in exchange for donations to local food banks. The result, 400 free flu shots given to individuals and families throughout the Denver Metro area and over a thousand pounds of food for Food Bank of the Rockies and Community Food Share were collected.
“I lost my job and health insurance over the summer, and I was worried about how I was going to keep my family healthy this flu season.” Kent of Arvada said during the Westminster Free Flu Clinic. “During these hard times, this event saved my family over $100 dollars.”
While Rocky Mountain Urgent Care and Family Medicine have been holding annual free flu shot clinics since 2004, this was the second year food donations have been requested in exchange for the vaccines.
“It’s a wonderful feeling to help not only the people in need of flu vaccinations for themselves and their families, but also the people in our community who aren’t sure where to find their next meal,” says Nathaniel Moore, MD, President and CEO of Rocky Mountain Urgent Care and Family Medicine. “As we continue to grow and add locations to our company, we look forward to increasing the number of free flu shots given to community members, as well as the amount of food donations to the local food banks.”
