SIXTH ANNUAL “OPERATION FREE BIRD”

On Saturday, November 21, 2009, Sheriff Doug Darr and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the sixth annual Operation Free Bird event. Last year we joined other sponsors to assist over 4,000 families obtain food for their Thanksgiving dinner. This year we are expecting the event to be even better. We have displays, demonstrations and certificates good for ten dollars towards a turkey or other food items available for those who attend.

The South West Adams Fire Protection District, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office will be there to answer questions, provide information and conduct demonstrations. The Adams County Sheriff's Office will have several specialized units at the event, including the K-9 Unit, and Bomb Unit.

Sheriff Darr stated, “Unfortunately this holiday season will be more financially challenging for some members of our community than previous years. We care about people and Operation Free Bird demonstrates the compassion and concern the sponsors have for our neighbors and for their well-being. There are many decent, hard-working people in Adams County and it is an honor for me to be a part of Operation Free Bird. In addition to being able to help these families buy a holiday dinner, we have the opportunity to meet some of them, shake their hands, wish them a happy holiday. ”

Operation Free Bird is November 21, 2009, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Rocky’s Auto, located at 63rd and Federal Boulevard. This is a family-friendly event and all are welcome. The event is not limited to those in need and we welcome those who want to just enjoy the day with our co-sponsors and us.
