31 BHS Students Move on the State DECA Competition

When the tally was complete at the District 3 DECA Conference, 31 Brighton High School students qualified for the state competition and 16 reached the finals. The competition was held Dec. 4 at Johnson and Wales University.

The students who qualified for the state competition represented 16 projects. By project category, they are:

Accounting Applications, Denise Ross
Apparel and Accessories, Kali DeLeon
Automotive Services, Alex Tolvo
Business Services Marketing, Thomas Kitzberger and Jasmine Streeter
Food Marketing, David Fleck and Richard Merich
Hotel and Lodging Management, Rocio Campana and Sabina Hernandez
Marketing Management, Celene Saenz and Diana Escarcega
Principles of Business Administration, Brandon Fukutome and Victor Chavez
Principles of Hospitality and Tourism, Alex Jarabek
Quick Service Restaurant Management, Abigail Sanchez, Maggie Molina, Perla Mendoza, and Andre Alverez
Restaurant and Food Services Management, Miranda Anich
Retail Merchandising, Samantha Green
Sports and Entertainment Marketing Individual, Jose Gutierrez
Technical Marketing Representative, Blake Suppes and Selina Hernandez

State qualifiers in team events are:

Business Law and Ethics, Derek Trujillo & Aaron Welch
Travel and Tourism Marketing, Melissa Laurienti and Paige Conrado
Also qualifying for the state competition is the Quiz Bowl team of Joe Makepeace, Kevin Jurado, Yessica Canas, and Nayeli Luna which “dominated,” according to teacher Ken Kreutzer.

In other DECA news, four BHS students passed the qualifying exam and will be candidates for state officer positions. They are Jessica McIntosh, Alex Jarabek, Blake Suppes and Nayeli Luna.
