27J begins tradition of Parents Nights

Call it “Spaghetti and Success” or “27J Parents Night” or “Meet the Superintendent.” They all work. And everyone is invited to attend.

The first of many such events, it will begin at 6 p.m. Monday (Jan. 25) with a free spaghetti dinner followed by keynote speaker Ricardo Leblanc-Esparza at 6:55. It happens in the Brighton High School Gym, 270 Eighth Ave., Brighton. Leblanc-Esparza’s topic: Student Success.

Sponsored by the Superintendent’s Parent Committee and Hispanic Advisory Council, the event is expected to be the first of many. One of the organizers and HAC representative Magdalena DelVillar said, it is “a new tradition. We hope to do this monthly or bimonthly – breaking out into elementary, middle school and high school family groups to address focused topics.

“One of HAC’s goals,” she said, “has been parental involvement and Dr. Blunck’s Parent Committee is helping get this off the ground.”

The Parents Nights will be held at locations throughout the district. The groups have tentatively planned the second at the south end of the school district in February or March at Prairie View Middle School.
