Due to the long period of below freezing temperatures, ice has built up in the roadway gutters, especially on the south sides of the streets. Though the recent warmers days have helped melt some locations, the drainage from the melt has refrozen on the existing ice and frozen pavement.
City of Brighton streets staff is working to remove ice from the flow paths to allow for drainage. However, until the ground thaws, the ice will continue to build up every night.
In addition, the city has placed salt and sand on some areas to help with the melting and to control slippery conditions.
Residents are urged to use caution when walking and driving in this icy areas.
