Bennet Pushes Senate to Bring Wall Street Reform to the Floor

Senate Will be Given a Choice to Reform Wall Street or to Protect It

Washington, DC – Michael Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado, released the following statement on the upcoming vote determining whether the Wall Street reform bill will come to the Senate Floor for debate:

“The Senate has a simple choice—reform Wall Street or protect it. The Senate can protect the big banks and lobbyists on Wall Street or it can protect the American people from the abuses and excessive risks of the Wall Street banks that gambled our economy into the Great Recession. Last week, in the Senate Agriculture Committee, we passed what is considered the toughest measure yet aimed at reining in dangerous and excessive risk taking. Now the full Senate has an opportunity to pass a bill that would provide greater transparency and accountability while providing meaningful consumer protections to Colorado families. We owe it to Coloradans and all Americans to hold Wall Street accountable, to ensure that consumers are protected and that taxpayers never again have to foot the bill for the ridiculous notion of ‘too big to fail’ banks. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to join me by voting to begin debating this landmark Wall Street reform.”

-Michael F. Bennet, U.S. Senator for Colorado
