Perlmutter Announces Approval for New VA Fisher House

Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter announced the Department of Veterans Affairs approved the building of a Fisher House to be located on the Anschutz Medical Campus near the new VA Medical Center.

The new Fisher House will provide on-site residential housing facilities for families of active duty and veteran patients receiving care at the VA Medical Center. In February, the Colorado Congressional Delegation requested the VA to approve the application by the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Denver Regional Office to construct a 20-bed facility.

Perlmutter stated, “The construction of a new VA Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado, is the fulfillment of our commitment to Colorado veterans and their families. It’s important to support the families of these veterans as well, and I am pleased the VA approved the construction of a new Fisher House to serve the families of those who courageously served this nation.”

Fisher Houses across the world provided free short-term residential housing services to over tens of thousands of families at a savings to the families of veterans and service members of over hundreds of millions of dollars.

The VA has 13 active VA Fisher Houses with 7 more under construction or proposed.
