The Adams County Board of Commissioners Appoint New Planning & Development Department Director

The Adams County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce the appointment of Abel Montoya as the new Planning & Development Department Director.

Montoya, born and raised in Denver, received a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Design with an emphasis in Planning and Economics from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Montoya received a competitive scholarship from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and earned a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning with an emphasis in Community and Economic Development from the University of Colorado at Denver. During his postsecondary education, he completed work for the City and County of Denver’s Housing and Neighborhood Development Services and the Mayor’s Office of Economic Development.

Montoya went to work for Adams County in 2002 as a planning assistant and was later promoted to development review planner. He has managed the Adams County Planning & Development Department since 2005 and has served as the Interim Planning & Development Department director for several months.

As Adams County Planning & Development Department director, Montoya will provide high-level planning and development expertise to various county departments and offices, including the Adams County Board of Commissioners, Board of Adjustment and Planning Commission. He will also coordinate the county’s planning efforts with the Regional Economic Advancement Partnership (REAP), the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), Adams County Economic Development (ACED), Colorado Counties Incorporated (CCI) and the citizens and businesses of Adams County.
