Adams County to Dedicate New South Platte River Pedestrian Bridge

Adams County invites you to celebrate the county’s trail system with the dedication of the new 290-foot pedestrian bridge spanning the South Platte River. The event will be held rain or shine on Saturday, June 5, 2010, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the Adams County Regional Park & Fairgrounds, 9755 Henderson Road in Brighton.

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, participants will have the opportunity to win prizes, cross the new bridge while hiking the trail, sign their names in a commemorative concrete portion of the bridge and enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs and refreshments.

Funding and construction of the new bridge was made possible by the Adams County Board of Commissioners through the Adams County Open Space Grant Program, along with the Colorado Lottery, Great Outdoors Colorado, the Urban Drainage and Flood Control District and Brighton.

The dedication is being held in conjunction with the American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day. The purpose of National Trails Day is to inspire the public and trail enthusiasts nationwide to seek out and discover local trail systems while participating in educational exhibits, trail dedications, gear demonstrations, instructional workshops and trail work projects.
