Commerce City celebrates National Senior Health and Fitness Day

COMMERCE CITY – The Recreation Center will take part in an estimated 1,000 local events celebrating the 17th annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day on May 26.

An estimated 100,000 seniors across the country are expected to participate in the day’s activities, which are designed to promote active, healthy lifestyles through physical fitness, good nutrition and preventive care.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for seniors to make, renew and revitalize their commitment to live healthier lives,” said Justin Lampe, senior program coordinator.

As an official host site, the Commerce City Recreation Center will recognize seniors in our classes and drop-in programs that promote active, healthy lifestyles. Seniors will receive certificates of participation and will be recognized in a special display that day.

Photos will demonstrate how seniors are living healthy lifestyles through participation in a variety of programs such as SilverSneakers, exercise classes, daily walking, weight training and special-interest classes such as ceramics. Along with the display, an information table will be set up 5:30-10:30 a.m.

For more information about this event, please contact Justin Lampe at 303-289-3720 or Robert Buck, fitness coordinator, at 303-289-3762.
