Perlmutter Congratulates Adams County Sheriff’s Department on Department of Defense Award

Nominated for National Guard & Reserve Friendly Policies

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) applauded the Adams County Sheriff’s Department on their selection as two of 30 national finalists for the 2010 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The award is the U.S. Government’s highest recognition given to employers for supporting their employees serving in the Guard and Reserve.

“This award nomination is a testament to the quality men and women of the Adams County Sheriff’s Department. They protect our communities, and they care about their employees. We are fighting two wars, and this is an added burden on our National Guard, Reserves and their families. Employers must be flexible and compassionate when these citizen soldiers get called to duty. I congratulate the Adams County Sheriff’s Department on this award nomination,” stated Perlmutter.

Thousands of employers were nominated for outstanding support of Guard and Reserve employees, which included providing full salary, continuation of benefits, care packages and even family support to employees fulfilling their military obligation. From the 30 finalists, a national selection board comprised of senior defense officials, business leaders and prior Freedom Award recipients, representing small business, large business and public sector employers, will select the 15 recipients of the 2010 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. Recipients will be announced by the Department of Defense in early summer. The awards will be presented at a ceremony in Washington , D.C. , Sept. 23, 2010 at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center .
