Perlmutter Hails Signing of Bill Authorizing Full Funding for VA Hospital

Washington, DC – Today, President Obama signed S. 1963, the VA Caregiver bill, which also authorizes the remaining funding to build the new VA Medical Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora .

U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) issued the following statement following the enactment of this bipartisan legislation.

“The signing of this bill completes another step as we move forward building a world-class medical facility to care for our veterans in Aurora . It is our moral obligation to provide the best medical care available to the courageous men and women who fought for our freedom and defended our nation. Thousands of veterans in Colorado and throughout the Rocky Mountain region will benefit when the doors open at this state-of-the-art VA Medical Center. I am proud our President, our delegation and the Congress prioritized this project which will help bring thousands of good-paying jobs to the area. We cannot wait any longer to fulfill our nation’s promise to our veterans.”

Enactment of S. 1963 authorizes full funding of $800 million for the new VA Medical Center being built at the Anschutz medical campus in Aurora .

Previously Congress authorized $568.4 million for the construction of a new VA Medical Center. S. 1963, the Caregivers and Veterans Omnibus Health Services Act of 2009 increases the VA construction project authorization to the full estimated cost of $800 million. Out of the $800 million authorized, to date, $307,300,000 is already funded. The President’s budget includes another $450,700,000 to be funded in 2011, with a remaining $42 million to be funded after FY 2011.
