27J offers FREE summer food service at two locations

There is such a thing as a free lunch – and breakfast – and it will be hosted by School District 27J this summer. The district’s summer food-service program will be offered at North Elementary, 89 N. Sixth Ave., and Northeast Elementary, 1605 Longspeak St., from June 1 through July 23.

All children from 1-year-old through age 18 can participate in the free-meal program and are encouraged to do so. Those over 18 can buy a meal for $1.25 at breakfast and $2.75 at lunch.

Breakfast is served from 8 to 9 a.m., and lunch is available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The United States Department of Agriculture provides the funding for the meal program. Schools that host the meals must meet certain eligibility guidelines to qualify.
