City Manager Gerald Flannery Honored with McCloy Fellowship

FELLOWSHIP PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES TO STUDY INTERNATIONAL GOVERNMENTAL BEST PRACTICES AT LOCAL AND FEDERAL LEVELS, WHILE FOSTERING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RELATIONSHIPS AND OPPORTUNITIES

COMMERCE CITY – As one of just three city officials in the United States honored by the McCloy Fellowship in Urban Affairs, City Manager Gerald Flannery will be traveling to Germany from Sept. 18 – Oct. 9 to represent Commerce City and explore economic development opportunities to bring to Commerce City. During the fellowship, funded by the American Council on Germany (ACG), Flannery will study best practices of local and federal governance while building relationships to spur economic development and create local jobs.

A significant honor, the McCloy Fellowship is offered by the ACG in the United States. Since the announcement of his selection, Flannery has been recognized and congratulated by peers and community members who understand the value that this fellowship will provide and the benefits that can come to the city and broader community as a result.

Colorado House Speaker Terrance Carroll stated in a letter sent to Commerce City’s Mayor and Council, “With Jerry’s level of commitment and his uncanny ability to build lasting relationships I have no doubt that this program will bring significant returns that will benefit Commerce City in years to come.”

While in Germany, Flannery will visit municipal counterparts, economic development professionals and legislative experts at the municipal and federal levels. These meetings will assist Flannery with developing the required research paper associated with McCloy Fellowship, the subject of which will be economic development and legislative efforts at local and federal levels.

This fellowship will be productive for the City in several ways, including the generation of new leadership opportunities for the City, the development of key economic development contacts, and will provide a forum to showcase Commerce City to companies in the region that may be seeking to locate in the United States.

More information about the fellowship is available at the ACG website located at www.acgusa.org.
