GOV. RITTER ORDERS FLAGS LOWERED IN HONOR OF FALLEN ARMY CHAPLAIN

Gov. Bill Ritter has ordered that all U.S. and Colorado flags be lowered to half staff at state and federal facilities throughout Colorado on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, in honor of Army Capt. Dale Goetz, 43.

Capt. Goetz died Aug. 30 in Arghandab River Valley , Afghanistan , in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, after an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle. Goetz is survived by his wife and children, who live in Colorado Springs , and his mother, who resides in Parker. He is the first Army Chaplain to die in combat since 1970. His funeral service is set for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at Fort Carson .
