Adams County Prohibits Medical Marijuana Facilities

In the Dec. 8, 2010 public hearing, the Adams County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution prohibiting the establishment and operation of medical marijuana dispensaries and growing operations in unincorporated Adams County. This follows the July 14, 2010 extension of the county’s temporary moratorium set to expire on Dec. 31, 2010.

The board considered the Colorado Medical Marijuana Code and the Nov. 2, 2010 election results on various ballot initiatives throughout the state concerning medical marijuana facilities before making their decision. The Colorado Medical Marijuana Code authorizes the Board of County Commissioners to vote to prohibit the operation of commercial medical marijuana facilities.

This prohibition does not apply to the possession and use of medical marijuana by certified medical marijuana patients in accordance with Colorado law.

The prohibition took effect immediately to protect the health, safety and welfare of citizens. Call Nate Lucero, Adams County Attorney’s Office, 303.654.6116, for additional information.
