E-470 Wins 2010 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility

Award recognizes employers using flexibility to create successful work environments

AURORA – The E-470 Public Highway Authority has received the 2010 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility. This award recognizes employers that are successfully using flexibility as part of an effective workplace strategy, including meeting business goals and benefiting employees by helping them meet their responsibilities on and off the job.

The selection process required employer responses to be measured against national data from the Families and Work Institute’s National Study of Employers. E-470’s employees were then surveyed on their access to flexible work options, the supportiveness of the culture, and on nationally-tested measures of workplace effectiveness.

Among other factors that contributed to receiving the award, E-470 provides employees with schedule flexibility, offsite access to shared work documents, an exercise room, lunch-and-learn educational opportunities, and a number of team building events.

“We take pride in knowing that E-470 is a leader in progressive work styles,” said John McCuskey, E-470’s executive director. “What makes this honor so special is that employees have affirmed that E-470 is an effective and flexible workplace.”

The award was presented on behalf of the When Work Works national team, including the Families and Work Institute, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for a Competitive Workforce, the Twiga Foundation, and the official regional partner, the Aurora Chamber of Commerce.

The E-470 tollway runs along the eastern perimeter of the Denver metropolitan area. The 70-mph highway extends 47 miles from State Highway C-470 at I-25 in Douglas County , to I-25 near 160th Ave. , in Thornton .
