Commerce City: On track in 2011

By Mayor Paul Natale

I hope all of you have had a wonderful and blessed holiday season.

As we enter this New Year, I look back at how far we have come as a city in the past few years.

It would be easy to fall into the negative attitude that has taken over some people and some areas of our great nation, but that doesn’t accomplish anything. It is through hard work and positive attitudes that we will bring our city – and country – back to the greatness we all know we possess.

We have a great staff that has developed a way to get through these less-than-plentiful times and to make great advances for our city. I want to thank each and every member of staff for all they have done to advance our city.

I especially want to thank Jerry Flannery for leading our city to where we are now.

We are seeing a number of new businesses open and we are starting to sell homes again. In my particular neighborhood, we have fewer homes for sale than we have had in a number of years.

As we grow, Commerce City has been recognized in Adams County, and also at the metro, state, national and international level.

• The city manager and director of economic development presented the city’s tax incentive program at a nationwide seminar in Atlanta.
• Several City Council members have taken active roles in the National League of Cities during these past few years, which improves our reputation in our metro area, as well as on the national level.

I also want to thank our citizens for all they have done for their city. To those who have lived here for years, I want to thank you for getting this dream started.

Because of you and your determination, we started down the road we are presently on, and your dreams are becoming a reality.

Mayors Harold Kite (sorry that you had to leave us), Casey Hayes and Dave Busby, I want to thank you for having the vision to see our future.

To our citizens in the northern area, I want to thank you for taking the chance to move to what appeared a deserted area with no services but plenty of vision. We are now seeing the results of your move here. I know that King Soopers has only signed a letter of intent, but at least it shows great promise.

As a final note, I wish all of you the greatest of blessings for the New Year. I plan on doing all I can to make this the best year yet.

  1. The only negative thing is that you do not see the truth Mayor Natale. You and the city council's blind support of Flannery is the problem with Coomerce City!
