Journey to Wellness Program Wins National Award

Adams County has received national recognition for the Journey to Wellness Program. UnitedHealthcare will present the Well Deserved Award to the Board of County Commissioners in public hearing on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, 9:30 a.m. The hearing will take place in the 1st floor public hearing room of the new Adams County Government Center located at 4430 South Adams County Parkway, Brighton.

UnitedHealthcare is presenting 10 organizations with the annual "Well Deserved" award for 2010, an honor given to employers who demonstrate an exceptional commitment to helping their employees improve their health and well-being through worksite wellness programs.

The Journey to Wellness Program is a 12-month health incentive program that encourages employees to achieve and maintain optimal health. Whether they want to lose a few pounds or get in better shape, the program promotes web-based tools and offers onsite programs and activities to keep employees engaged and motivated all year long.

Adams County's Journey to Wellness program uses a variety of resources, tools and incentives to create an innovative wellness program. An on-site "facility champ" is available at each location to assist employees and answer questions. The combination of on-site behavior modification programs, health fairs and targeted screenings has produced measurable health improvements. For instance, health care claims for Adams County were lowered by approximately $50,000 during a two-year period by removing co-pays for office visits related to the treatment of asthma and diabetes.
