GOP “So Be It” Budget Plan Would Give 11,900 Coloradans the Pink Slip

Today, the Democratic Policy and Communication Center (U.S. Senate Democrats) released state-by-state estimates (http://democrats.senate.gov/gopplan) of job cuts related to the House Republicans reckless budget proposal. U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) released the following statement about House Republicans' budget plan that will impact nearly 1 million jobs nationwide.

“Just as our economy is getting back on its feet and the unemployment rate is declining, House Republicans continue to put forth a budget spending plan that could knock us back down instead of moving us forward. Instead of focusing on ways to build jobs here in our country, they continue to export jobs to other countries and their plan could give 11,900 Coloradans pink slips in two weeks."

"We have to responsibly cut the debt, and the best way to do it is to get people back to work.”

Potential impacts of the House Republican "So Be It Spending Plan" (H.R. 1) on Colorado:

· Reduces Colorado ’s homeland security investments by more than $1 million, hurting local law enforcement’s ability to keep Coloradans safe. Close to 5,000 community health center jobs could be eliminated in Colorado if the House-passed bill is enacted.

· The average Colorado undergraduate with Pell college tuition assistance will see their student aid cut by more than $600.

· More than 2,500 Colorado children will lose access to Head Start, an early education program proven to help students complete high school.

· Colorado could lose upwards of $35 million in job training investments.
