April 16 – Tree pick-up: Residents who ordered trees from the city’s Tree Program can pick up their trees between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at City Hall, 22 S. 4th Avenue. There are still a few extra trees available that will be for sale that day (check or money order only). In addition, a master gardener will be on hand to provide information on planting and maintaining trees.

April 27 – 11 a.m., Northeast Elementary Tree Planting: As the first place winner of the National Arbor Day Foundation Poster Contest, Northeast Elementary, 1605 Longs Peak, will receive a tree to be planted with the fifth graders on school property. In attendance will be Brighton Mayor Dick McLean and State Forester Keith Wood. Southeast Elementary came in second place and will also receive a tree (date to be announced).

April 30– 10 a.m., Brighton Park Tree Planting: Approximately 25 trees will be planted at Brighton Park, 901 Midland Street. There will be a raffle and refreshments provided. Volunteers are needed for this event.

In addition the city of Brighton has also received its 6th Growth Award for 2010. The Tree City USA Growth Award is provided by The Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the U.S.D.A. Forest Service, to recognize environmental improvement and encourage higher levels of tree care throughout America. This award is designed not only to recognize achievement, but also to communicate new ideas and help the leaders of all cities recognized as a Tree City USA to plan for improving community tree care.
