DA Quick decided to request the appointment of a special prosecutor for Alice Nichol case...

17th Judicial District Attorney Don Quick and Adams County Sheriff Doug Darr announce today that the investigation regarding allegations of financial impropriety involving Adams County Commissioner Alice Nichol has been completed. After a thorough investigation, where documents were received as recently as last week, by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office, DA Quick decided to request the appointment of a special prosecutor to the case. “After serving over 23 years as a prosecutor, I know how critical it is that the public has trust and confidence in decisions being made by public officials – this is especially true for prosecutors. Given the information made public recently about Adams County and its officials, it is important that our citizens have faith in the process involving this commissioner and this case”, says DA Quick.

Jefferson County District Attorney Scott Story will review the Nichol’s investigation to determine whether there is evidence to support the filing of criminal charges. Quick states “Having a District Attorney from a different jurisdiction review the file and make the filing decision should provide the public with the trust that the decision will be based on the evidence.”

Sheriff Darr added “We have a responsibility to conduct a thorough and objective investigation. The entire investigative file, including over 700 pages of reports and attachments will be provided to the Jefferson County DA. In addition, the Jefferson County DA will have access to the investigation files of the former employees of Adams County Public Works, Quality Paving and Quality Resurfacing, currently being prosecuted in Adams County.”

DA Quick’s office remains the prosecutors for the previously filed cases against six defendants involving the former employees of Adams County Public Works, Quality Paving and Quality Resurfacing. Those cases include over 85,000 pages of investigation reports and documents received from Adams County and Quality Paving and Resurfacing.

“I have known District Attorney Scott Story for a long time and I have complete confidence that he and his staff will be both thorough and fair,” affirms Quick.

  1. Bob Trucker the guy who was charged with filing a false report against Attorney Gen. John Suthers (assaulting him) announced to Alice Nichol that he is a candidate for her seat.
