Heriberto "Bert" Holguin named Adams County 2010 Employee of the Year

The Adams County Board of Commissioners announced Heriberto "Bert" Holguin as Adams County 2010 Employee of the Year at the Employee Recognition Lunch on May 3, 2011.

Holguin, South Parks Supervisor in the Parks & Community Resources Department, began his career with Adams County 25 years ago. He has been instrumental in the growth and development of the county's trail and open space system.

"It is a pleasure to recognize Bert Holguin as the 2010 Employee of the Year," said Commissioner W. R. "Skip" Fischer, chairman of the Board of County Commissioners. "The open space program is important to the county and we appreciate that Bert takes pride in his work and the parks and trails he maintains."

Holguin supervises seven fulltime and 10 seasonal employees; oversees maintenance operations of 30 miles of trails and over 2,000 acres of parks and open space. This includes irrigation, mowing, pesticide application, pruning, landscaping, construction techniques, heavy equipment operation and project management.

Holguin also supervises all maintenance activities and 30-40 staff during the late shift at the annual Adams County Fair. Holguin and the South Parks crew also assist with special events such as building and trail groundbreaking and dedications.

Holguin is fluent in Spanish, and often serves as an interpreter for Spanish speaking clients renting facilities at the fairgrounds. Through his interpersonal and customer service skills, he has established an excellent working relationship with other departments. Holguin is always willing to work late and come in on weekends when necessary to ensure that any concerns that come up after hours are addressed.

Holguin was selected as Employee of the Year following committee review and selection as Employee of the Month for November 2010.

The Employee Recognition Luncheon is an annual event to recognize employees who have reached a milestone year with the county, retirees and Employee of the Month recipients.
