Horse Events Canceled at Fairgrounds Due to EHV-1 Outbreak

Due to a confirmed outbreak of Equine Herpes Virus (EHV-1) throughout the Western United States and Canada, Adams County has elected to cancel all horse-related events through the end of May, 2011 as a precautionary measure. Adams County is also prohibiting boarding of horses at the Adams County Fairgrounds facility located at 9755 Henderson Road in Brighton through the end of the month. County staff will re-evaluate this precautionary measure as more information comes to light over the next two weeks.

EHV-1 is a highly contagious strain which specifically attacks horses and has caused several deaths in horses over the last few days.

Although there is no official reports of the virus in Adams County, Weld County has had a few confirmed cases, one of which has been confirmed in Ft. Lupton which is located near the border of Adams and Weld Counties.
