Annual Commerce City Fishing Frenzy a Success

more than 300 anglers participate in fishing derby

COMMERCE CITY – More than 300 young anglers from across the Denver area participated in Commerce City’s annual Fishing Frenzy held earlier this month. The event, now in its fourth year, was rescheduled from its original date due to a federal budget impasse.

Winner of the biggest fish category, Katalina Aragon, stands with Bass Pro professional fishermen Sam Heckman (kneeling) and Jim Cranmer

Participants and their families enjoyed a sunny day and calm waters at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge. Award-winner Katalina Aragon snagged the biggest fish – 22.5 inches long –of the entire event. Participants in the two derby sessions also enjoyed making fishing crafts and learning skills such as fly-tying from professional sportsmen.

Awards were provided in the following categories:
· Littlest Fish: Gabriella Meurer and Levi Mariz
· Biggest Fish: Aragon and Jahaira Bueno
· Most Fish Caught: Greg Gonzales and Jonathan Zamora

The Fishing Frenzy is sponsored by Commerce City, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, Bass Pro Shops, Take Me Fishing and the Reunion Metro District.
