Attorney General announces settlement with Office Depot to resolve allegations of overbilling government, nonprofit entities

Colorado Attorney General John Suthers announced today that his office has reached an agreement with Office Depot to offer a refund to roughly 115 Colorado governmental agencies and nonprofits in connection with the sale of office supplies between January 2006 and March 2009.

Under the agreement, Office Depot will refund those Colorado customers up to $189,000. The Attorney General alleges that the customers were placed on a higher-cost price plan either without their knowledge or without complete information about the cost differences between the price plans available to the customers.

Office Depot denies any wrongdoing and fully cooperated with the Attorney General’s yearlong investigation.

“I appreciate Office Depot’s willingness to work through these issues with my office,” Suthers said.

Office Depot will contact agencies eligible for refunds.
