DENVER CELEBRATES FREEDOM WITH FREE ACTIVITIES OVER 4th OF JULY WEEKEND

DENVER, CO – June 28, 2011 – The Mile High City ’s 4th of July Weekend schedule is, as always, packed with fun, family-friendly events. What sets this year apart is the abundance of free activities, including a patriotic Colorado Symphony Orchestra concert accompanied by fireworks, the Shriners Parade, and the massive Cherry Creek Arts Festival. This free, outdoor extravaganza – the city’s signature cultural celebration of the visual, performing and culinary arts – gives more than 350,0000 annual visitors the chance to meet and talk with international visual artists, enjoy a wide range of family friendly fun and sample fine cuisine.

CBS4 Independence Day Eve Celebration

July 3, Civic Center Park (Broadway and Colfax), Denver

The second-annual Independence Eve Celebration will feature a free patriotic concert by The Colorado Symphony, an innovative light show on the Denver City and County Building and a stunning fireworks finale. Lawn seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis; blankets or low-rise concert/beach chairs are encouraged. Attendees are welcome to bring their own picnics; concessions will also be present on-site.

Shriners Imperial Council Session Parade

July 4, Downtown Denver

Miniature vehicles, brass bands, drum and bugle corps – and, of course, plenty of those signature red hats! The Shriners, the famed fraternal fellowship, are hosting their Imperial Session in Denver from July 3-7. On Independence Day, see the Shriners parade through the streets of downtown. The event kicks off in Civic Center Park at 1:30 p.m.

City Park Jazz: The Denver Municipal Band

Celebrate Independence Day Eve at the City Park Bandstand with the Denver Municipal Band, the oldest professional concert band in the continental United States. Alex Sutherland, bugler at the “Charge of The Light Brigade,” founded the Denver Municipal Band in the late 1860s. City Park Jazz is a free concert series that takes place every Sunday in June and July. Concerts start at 6 p.m.

Olde Town Arvada Spirit of America 4th of July Festival

Park Hill 4th of July Parade

This popular, community-friendly event will again be marching along 23rd Avenue on Independence Day in this historic northeast Denver neighborhood. Stretching from Dexter Street all the way to Kearney Street, last year's parade included hundreds of marchers, bikers, floats and classic cars. This year's parade looks to be even bigger, with plans for marching bands, street performers and more floats!
