Brighton Council approves name for new adult recreation center

The Brighton City Council voted last night to approve the name Eagle View Adult Center for the new adult recreation center opening in early 2012 at 1150 Prairie Center Parkway in Brighton .

“To see us grow and to move to a new facility like this is tremendous,” Councilman Daryl Meyers said.

The City recently held a contest calling for name submissions. Residents submitted 116 names for the new center which were reviewed by the Senior Center Advisory Board. Recommendations from that list were then forwarded to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for review before Council’s approval.

Eagle View Adult Center will double the size of the current Brighton Senior Center and will enable the programs and services to expand and grow over time. The new facility will serve the adult population with a target audience being those ages 55 and older. The secondary target for programs will be those adults 40 and older.

Ground breaking for the center began May 10. The facility is being constructed in three phases. Phase I includes community rooms, three class rooms, a commercial kitchen, an elevated stage/craft room, library, staff offices, and billiards area. Phase II includes a fitness area, walking track, aerobic room, offices, and small locker room. Phase III includes an exercise pool, hot tub, lap pool, and larger locker rooms. Design and construction of Phase I will be complete by early next year. Phase II and Phase III construction have not yet been planned.
