CONOR CASEY OUT FOR REMAINDER OF 2011 SEASON WITH TORN ACHILLES TENDON

Casey expected to miss approximately eight months after suffering injury during match vs. Seattle

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Tuesday, July 19, 2011) – Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey will miss the remainder of the 2011 season after suffering a torn left Achilles tendon during the Rapids match on Saturday at Seattle Sounders FC. Casey, who leads the Rapids with six goals this season, will undergo surgery on Wednesday and is expected to be out approximately eight months while recovering.

Casey was injured in the 38th minute of Saturday’s match at Seattle Sounders FC, and an MRI taken on Monday afternoon revealed the extent of the injury. Surgery on Casey’s left Achilles tendon has been scheduled for Wednesday at Advanced Orthopedics in Denver under the supervision of Rapids Team Doctor Wayne Gersoff MD.

The Rapids play twice this week, first hosting the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, followed by the New England Revolution on Saturday. Both matches are at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, with tickets available by calling 303-825-GOAL or visiting www.ColoradoRapids.com.
