Meet Commerce City Ward 2 Council Candidate Kristine Sumner, Ph.D.

Kristine Sumner, PhD.
Kristine Sumner moved to Commerce City in 2009 from Ocala, Florida. Sumner is currently an adjunct professor at Metro State College of Denver where she teaches Aviation Security and General Aviation Marketing/Management.

Prior to moving to Commerce City, Sumner was a general manager for the Clear – Registered Traveler Program at Denver International Airport. Dr. Sumner also oversaw Clear operations at Orlando International Airport, Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport, Indianapolis International Airport, Salt Lake City International, and Newark Liberty International Airport.

Prior to working for Clear, Sumner was an adjunct professor at the University of Central Florida, as well as an intern for the Senior Director of Public Safety and the Director of Security at Orlando International Airport. She also worked with numerous law enforcement agencies throughout the state of Florida on a statewide crime mapping initiative.

Sumner received her Doctorate in Public Affairs from the University of Central Florida. She also holds a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. She is also certified through the American Association of Airport Executives as an Airport Security Coordinator and an Airport Certified Employee (ACE) in airport security.

Sumner is also proud to volunteer for numerous organizations and councils in Commerce City. Currently Sumner serves as a member on the Commerce City Liquor License Authority, and she is a member of the Commerce City Historical Society, the Commerce City Cultural Council (Treasurer), and the South Adams Women’s Association. Sumner also serves as a volunteer at the Adams County Museum. Sumner believes that it important to preserve the history of Commerce City while also promoting its future.

•1999: Certification in Crime Mapping and Analysis. University of Central Florida.
