The City of Brighton will celebrate its agricultural heritage Saturday, Aug. 13 at Brighton Market Day. The annual event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Armory at Brighton Cultural Center and will include produce from local growers, an education symposium, interactive activities provided by Anythink Library of Brighton, live entertainment, great food, local artists and free kids activities.Market Day was organized by Brighton founder Daniel F. Carmichael and was first held in the latter part of the 19th century as part of the Adams County Fair. The original Adams County Fair Grounds at 4th Avenue and Southern Street was transformed into a marketplace where the community could purchase produce, goods and livestock.
The 2011 Market Day is sponsored by the City of Brighton, Downtown Brighton, Anything Library, the Armory at Brighton Cultural Center, Brighton Cultural Arts Commission, Brighton Urban Renewal Authority and Scientific and Cultural Facilities District. For more information, contact 303-655-2217.
