September is National Emergency Preparedness Month and the Brighton Office of Emergency Management is encouraging all citizens to prepare themselves and their families for natural and human-caused disasters.The eighth annual National Preparedness Month (NPM) kicks off today using the slogan: "A Time to Remember. A Time to Prepare." The campaign seeks to transform awareness into action by encouraging everyone to take the necessary steps to ensure that their homes, workplaces and communities are prepared for disasters and emergencies of all kinds. Neighbor helping neighbor in building a resilient community that can plan for, respond to, mitigate and recover from any type of disaster.
Brighton recognizes that this September marks the ten-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Citizens are encouraged to attend the various activities scheduled in Brighton and throughout the Denver Metro Area to ensure that our communities, and our nation, are prepared to respond and recover from all types of disasters and hazards, we honor the memory of those who were lost that day.
The City of Brighton will be offering its Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) beginning Sept. 15 through Nov. 10. Classes are held every Thursday from 6:15 to 9:15 p.m. and will end with a hands-on-exercise on Nov. 12. To register, visit www.brightoncert.org
