Commerce City Officer Involved Shooting Results in Fatality

COMMERCE CITY –At approximately 9:06 a.m. today, the Commerce City Police Department responded to a check well being on a suicidal party at 6976 Monaco Street. Officers spoke to a female who said her boyfriend had strangled her last night during an argument and he told her if she called the cops he would have the cops kill him. She said prior to the police arriving, her boyfriend left the home armed with a large butcher knife.

Officers located the suspect in his car in the 6900 block of Monaco Street. When they attempted to stop him, he led them on a short vehicle pursuit (less than 3 blocks) coming to a stop at his residence, 6976 Monaco Street. The suspect exited his car, still armed with the knife, and ran into his residence and barricaded himself inside the home. Officers could hear loud voices and a female screaming from inside the home. An officer was able to make entry into the home where the suspect was shot and fatally wounded by the officer.

Consistent with city policy, this incident is being investigated by the independent Adams County Critical Incident team. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending completion of the investigation

This is the first officer-involved shooting in the city this year. The suspect in this morning’s shooting has been identified as 31 year old Nathan Done (08/25/80)
