Commerce City Hit and Run Collision

UPDATE: At approximately 7:00pm on December 11, 2011, the suspect vehicle from the hit and run accident was located in Denver, in the area of Interstate 70 and Interstate 270. A female driver was taken into custody at that time by the Denver Police Department.

The Commerce City Police Department is asking for help from the public tonight in identifying a hit and run vehicle and driver that fled the scene of a collision involving a Commerce City Police car.

At approximately 6:30pm, a K-9 officer’s SUV was struck in the intersection of E 96th Avenue and Highway 2. The driver of the other vehicle then left the scene at a high rate of speed, northbound on Highway 2, and was last seen westbound on E 104th Avenue. Witnesses described the vehicle as driving recklessly, trying to flee the scene.

The vehicle is described as a dark colored Ford Excursion, 1999-2000 model, with heavy front end damage. The vehicle was possibly driven by a female, and no other occupants were seen at the time.

The investigation is being conducted by the Colorado State Patrol. Anyone with information is asked to call the Colorado State Patrol, or the Commerce City Police Department tip line at 303-289-3626.
