District Attorney Don Quick announces the sentencing of a nurse for stealing identities of hospital patients in Adams County

Cannon Tubb (DOB: 08/20/1980) was employed as a contract nurse who was contracted out to numerous hospitals throughout the Denver metro area and Adams County, including St. Anthony’s Hospital and Platte Valley Medical Center. During his employment in late 2010 and early 2011, it was discovered Tubb accessed patient records and used that information to steal the credit card and personal information of patients in the hospitals.

Tubb’s crimes were discovered when a victim was contacted by a large merchant regarding a credit application in February of 2011. Westminster Police Department began investigating the crime and traced the misappropriation of the identifying information to the victim’s stay and treatment at St. Anthony’s hospital, and ultimately to Tubb. All hospitals where Tubb was working contacted all patients who had been treated while Tubb worked as a contract nurse to attempt to warn those potential victims of the possible theft of their personal information. As a result, further victims were located.

In June, 2011 Tubb was charged with multiple counts of Identity Theft (F4) and Theft of Medical Records (F6). Today, Tubb was sentenced to six years in Community Corrections by Adams County District Judge Jill-Ellyn Straus. The District Attorney had recommended a prison sentence for Tubb’s crimes. DA Don Quick stated “We requested a prison sentence due to the severity of the crimes and the vulnerability of the hospital patients that Tubb’s victimized.”
