Commerce City Fracking Update...

On Thursday, Feb. 2, city staff, consistent with the city’s new recognition as a Local Government Designee, met with representatives from the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) regarding the proposed well (Custy Well) located within city limits on the Settler’s Crossing development, east of Tower Road and just north of East 96th Avenue.

The COGCC representatives explained the collaborative process undertaken with Local Government Designees to review the application. State representatives shared possible Conditions of Approval they might request of this application, including additional measures to address traffic, noise, lighting, unnecessary truck idling, waste management and odor controls. City staff requested a specific site plan be provided to the COGCC by the applicant to better inform the dialogue and analyze surface impacts such as visual barriers and truck traffic patterns, as these were not immediately known.

The city will continue to work with COGCC in its role as the Local Government Designee for the Custy Well site and provide additional requests for Conditions of Approval.
