Adams City HS Environmental science class was fortunate enough to have Dave Wann as a guest speaker to the Fine Arts Academy as the class begins their study of biogeochemical cycles and creating a sustainable community design.
Dave Wann has spent thirty years pondering a qualitatively better, more sustainable future. His research and reflection has produced nine books, more than a hundred articles, and twenty videos. Many more products are in the works. He has taught at the college level, worked as a policy analyst for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for more than a decade, and helped design and build the cohousing village in which he now lives.
Mr. Wann discussed the aspects of re-thinking the designs of our communities to provide a more cohesive and functional design that benefits everyone. Students were able to view some of his current project designs and discuss the aspects of reduction, reuse, and recycling. And, in student amazement the gentleman known for his strong science background pulled out a guitar and serenaded us with a song that details our lack of understanding of some of nature’s fundamental cycles and sense of balance—proving once again that there is a strong connection between arts and science!
