Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-07) announced the latest health care research funding for the University of Colorado Denver - Anschutz Medical Campus and job statistics for Colorado ’s 7th Congressional District received as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed ARRA at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.
To date, the University of Colorado secured over $19 million in ARRA grants for more than 60 research projects. Additionally, an estimated 1,125 jobs were created or saved just in the 7th CD as a result of ARRA funding.
“For the University of Colorado , these awards are a testament to the world class research taking place on the Anschutz Medical campus. I recently toured some of their research facilities and saw first hand the cutting edge work being done to help people with cancer, diabetes, heart disease and spinal cord injuries. These ARRA funds are critical to keeping Colorado at the forefront of medical breakthroughs.
“ARRA is primarily a jobs bill. In the 7th Congressional District alone, this bill is directly responsible for creating more than 1,100 new jobs and saving existing jobs in the sustainable design, transportation, construction, law enforcement and summer youth program areas. I am proud to support this legislation, and I anticipate many more job opportunities and investments to come.
“Over $445 million in benefits and investments have been awarded to the 7th CD since February. These investments highlight the important work of the world class companies and facilities in the district and are critical to improving our economy and easing the squeeze felt by so many of the hardworking people of America.”
